Torrent description
The Trondheim 'posse' spent most of the nineties making intense and powerful with fuzzguitars and mighty arrangements. Now they've taken the music to an altoghether different means of expression; another kind of feeling. Not totally unlike what bands such as Flaming Lips and High Llamas are making these days.
"Let them eat cake" includes nine songs, most of them quiet/easy, tender and beautiful. Strings and horns have a 'cool' position in the rather detailed and embellished arrangements. The best of the bunch is the Beach Boysesque 'Big Surprise' and the unusually pretty and weird 'Stained Glass'. They almost enter Kåre & the Cavemen's musical homeland on the instrumental 'Whip that Ghost', while "Walking with J.' sounds a bit more 'typical' Motorpsycho.
This is an album which one can fall in love with. Most of the tunes holds up to several hundred play-throughs. They stand up to every analysis. 'Let them eat cake' is relieving different.
This band has done everything. Including being a huge band in their own country, they have also been a profiled band in the rest of Europe. In their earlier years they have experimented with a little bit harder rock, but on this album they show that they can handle many music catogories. They have been proclaimed geniuses, and that title suits them. This album is butter smoothe, and just sends shivers down your spine, and shows the world that Norway has more than Lene from Aqua to brag about. These guys know how to make music.
